Born in Detroit, Mary Beth was the daughter of William and Irma (Stringer) Starret. She married the love of her life, Robert Paterson, on November 28, 1942. A dedicated homemaker, Mary Beth also worked at the Monroe Evening News for 10+ years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Mary Beth leaves to cherish her memory, Robert, her husband of the past 73 years; children: Susan Paterson of Monroe, Thomas (Jacky) Paterson of Monroe, James Paterson of Clemmons, North Carolina and Nancy Rumsey of Ft. Collins, Colorado; seven grandchildren: Benjamin, Rebecca, William, Andrew, Abbie, Alexander and Maura; as well as 10 great grandchildren. Sadly she was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter Kari; three brothers: William Starret, George Starret and James Starret; as well as a daughter-in-law Chris. In accordance with Mary Beth's wishes cremation is taking place under the direction of the Allore Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would like to give a special thank you to the care given by Grace Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care. Memorial Contributions in Mary Beth's honor may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
