Martha Ann Bitz

Martha Ann Bitz, 91, of Monroe, passed away February 11, 2017 in Medilodge of Monroe. Born September 21, 1925 in Monroe, Michigan, Martha was the daughter of Lester Charles and Anna Frances (Boes) Bitz. Martha received her GED from Monroe Public Schools and she retired from AT & T after 35 years of clerical work. Martha volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and the Monroe Center for 18 years. She also was a life member of St. Joseph Parish in Maybee. Martha and her sister Mary Louise were world travelers, covering Europe, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii and most of the United States. She also enjoyed casino hopping. Martha leaves to cherish her memory her sister Mary Louise Bitz of Monroe and many cousins. Sadly, Martha was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Anna Bitz. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Lewis and Donna Boes, her special neighbors Judy and Bob Sacka and many others. Also a very special thank you to Great Lakes Hospice. There will be a Funeral Mass Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maybee. Martha will lie In State from 9:00 am until the funeral mass at 10:00 am at the church. Father Steve Mateja will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, Maybee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Monroe Humane Society or the Salvation Army.
