Mark John Pautuk of Gibraltar, MI was a caring son, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away on September 19, 2021 at the age of 61. He was born in Detroit to John and Beverly Pautuk on July 1, 1960. Growing up he enjoyed gymnastics and the arts as well as spending time with his siblings. After graduating from Trenton High School in 1977, he went on to become a central figure in the Detroit Restaurant Industry. He was known by those close to him as the "Ghetto Gourmet" and he spent most of his adult life working his way up through the ranks at many prominent restaurants including Mario’s and Carl’s Chop House before making his home at Giovanni's Ristorante as the Executive Chef. His delicious meals were enjoyed by both his family and his many customers including those who attended the various functions that he catered for such as the Fash Bash, Restaurant News & Spotlight, and the Hantz Group Parties. The Detroit restaurant scene will surely miss his talents in the kitchen. Mark was a very animated individual who brought smiles and laughter to everyone he met. Not only was he big in stature, but he was also big in heart and he did much to help his friends and family over the years. He was preceded in death by his father, John Pautuk, his brother in law, Michael Dye, and many dear friends. Mark promised his father that he would take care of his mother, with whom he shared a very special bond, and he spent the last 11 years looking after her. He is survived by his mother, Beverly; his siblings Cheryl Dye, Scott (Christy) Pautuk, Todd (Liz) Pautuk, Cathy Cookson; and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all of his family, his restaurant family, and his many friends.
