Click on the tribute wall above to view Marian's video tribute. Marian Townes, age 88 of Southgate, passed away February 3, 2020. Loving wife of Dr. William Eugene Townes. Dear mother of Suzanne (Pastor Paul) Townes Hamilton, Sara (Joseph) Townes Brazeal, Marcellyn (William) Townes Reagan, and Rev. William E. (Deanna) Townes, Jr. Proud grandmother of 26 and great grandmother of 15. Also survived by her brother Richard Frederick (Dorothy) Rice. Memorial contributions may be made to Inter-City Baptist Church, 4700 Allen Rd., Allen Park, MI 48101 Marian Townes was not a unique woman. She was merely one of a vast host of women whose lives have been changed by being saved by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She exhibited from the early days of her conversion to the Lord Jesus a great commitment to the Great Commission (see Matthew 28:18-20). She never baptized anyone, for that task was not given to her in the Bible. With her husband, William Eugene Townes, she was able to make disciples for the Lord Jesus and try to teach them all things that the Lord Jesus had taught her in the Bible. And she did this in four different languages- English, French, Lingala, and Sango on two continents. Her early years of service for the Lord and Savior were spent in Belgium, the Belgian Congo, and the Central African Republic. Three of her four children (Suzanne, Marcellyn, and Bill) were born in the tropical rain forests of Central Africa. That presented its own set of challenges, believe you me! Only Sara was born in the U.S.A., and she was born two months pre-mature and needed post-natal hospital care for a month! The Lord knew we would need Children’s Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, for her! The latter years of her service for her Lord were spent in the elementary school of Inter-City Baptist Church as teacher and principal of the school. “She was not a unique woman”? She would reply to that that her life was not really her own, She had been bought and paid for –redeemed- by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus; and so belonged to Him to do His will. The Lord’s will for her included marriage (I am so, so thankful!), children (4-plus their spouses) forty-one grandchildren (26 grands, 15 great grands), and a life filled with challenges and blessings that come from always seeking to do God’s will. She loved her Lord. She loved His Word. She loved her church. She loved her husband, her children, and all her family. I cannot help but think, “What kind of world would this be if all the women in the world were like Marian Townes?” …….....................................................…………one privileged man, William Eugene Townes
