Louis A. Berns

Louis A. Berns, age 93 of Monroe, passed away October 27, 2021. Born February 5, 1928 in Newport, Louis was the son of Louis C. and Pauline (Jaworski) Berns. He married the love of his life, Clara Rabbit, on March 27, 1951 and they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Sadly she preceded him in death. A 1946 graduate of Monroe High School, Louis enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving until 1952. He worked as an Electrician for Ford Motor Company, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church serving as an usher, Eucharistic minister and various other functions. Louis spent many years as a volunteer fireman for both Newport and Frenchtown fire departments as well as 10 years as the Frenchtown Building and Electrical Inspector. In Idaho he was a member of the Knights of Columbus reaching the rank of Fourth Degree. Louis enjoyed fishing, hunting and carving. Louis is survived by a brother Arnold (Josephine) Berns; 5 children: Mark (Shelley) Berns of Star, Idaho, Rebecca (Kevin) Winston of Meridian, Idaho, Constance (David) Leach of Monroe, Chris Ann West of Belleville and Chad (Rose) Berns of Rixeyville, Virginia; as well as 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Memorial contributions in honor of Louis may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church.
