Linda Smith was born on March 12, 1947 in Detroit, MI, to Jacob D. and Wanda Kaier. Jacob was a master electrician, excelling at his job. The family moved around many times, allowing Linda to travel across the country, live in different states, and meet new people. In the spring of 1968, Linda met the love of her life, Donald, on a double date. They dated for 3 months before they became engaged, and subsequently married in February of 1969.
Linda was a homemaker for many years before she started working for the Dearborn School District. During her time as a homemaker, she picked up hobbies like doing ceramics and sewing. She retired from Henry Ford Community College about 15 years ago, where she worked for the admissions department. She was also a catechism teacher at the former Saint Conrad’s Catholic Church in Melvindale, MI.
She was a traveller, having taken trips to Florida, Las Vegas, and Flagstaff. She enjoyed going on cruises and staying at all-inclusive resorts. She played darts with her husband, Donald, and was an avid collector of just about anything.
Linda is survived by her children Terry (Jeffery) Smith-Proctor, Michael (Angela) Smith, and Patrick Smith and her grandchildren Jacob A. Smith, Abigail Smith, Maya Glover, Edgar Proctor, Lorraine Proctor, Gavin Smith, Adalynn Smith, Dylan Smith, and Brinlynn Smith. She is also survived by her siblings Andrew Kaier and David (Barbara) Kaier; nephews Kevin Kaier and Jason Kaier; and niece/godchild Kimberley Kaier.
Visitation will take place on Thursday June 29, 2023 at the Allen Park Chapel of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes from 4:00PM – 9:00PM. The service will take place the following day, Friday June 30, at 10:00AM. After the service, we will be driving in procession to Our Lady of Hope Cemetery to witness the burial.
