Leonila E. Berrelez

Berrelez, Leonila ("Lila") E. Carter of Detroit, Michigan died peacefully on December 19, 2017 at the age of 92. Lila was born on December 27, 1924 in Eagle Pass, Texas. Beloved wife of the late Juan D. Berrelez for 59 years. Loving mother of John (Debbie), Carlos (deceased), Ana Margarita Southers , Rolando, David (Pam), Robert (Sue) and Joseph (Carole). Cherished grandmother of 12 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Lila was the youngest daughter of the late James Carter and Ana Pineda. She was preceded in death by her dearest siblings Normando Carter, Luz Elguezabal and Marina Hess, and seven half-brothers and sisters. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Lila was a devout Catholic and she enjoyed cooking, gardening, poetry, hot sauce, and western movies. Visitation on Friday, December 22, from 3-9 pm at Martenson Funeral Home, 10915 Allen Rd, Allen Park, MI. (Rosary at 7 pm). Funeral Mass on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 8118 West Vernor Hwy, Detroit, MI. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Southfield, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Detroit, MI.
