Leonard S. Komendera

Leonard was the son of Stanley & Mary (Jamroz) Komendera. He married Sophie Jedlinska on October 19, 1963 in Poland. Leonard faithfully served his country with the United States Navy from December 5, 1944 until July 18, 1946. His commendations include the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. Leonard was probably best known for owning and operating the West Elm Service Sunoco Station with his brother Stanley from 1948 until his retirement June 30, 1995. He was a member of VFW Post 4093 in Carleton; St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its ushers club. In addition to his wife of 46 years, Leonard is survived by his children: Agnes Gutierrez of Monroe, Mary Shink of Kennewick, Washington, Cathy (Paul) Cousineau of Monroe, Michelle Komendera of Ashland, Ohio and Leonard E. Komendera of Carleton. He is also survived by a brother Jerome (Rosemary) Komendera of Cass Lake; his grandchildren who lovingly referred to Leonard as DziaDzia: Bobby Gutierrez, Andrew Gutierrez, Nico Cousineau, Jack Cousineau, Christian Shink and Katelyn Komendera as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his brother Stanley and a son-in-law Eric Shink.
