Leona M. Brant

Born in Raisinville Township, Leona was the daughter of Frank and Mary (Lewen) Hess. She married the love of her life, James Brant on June 27, 1946. Sadly he preceded her in death on May 20, 2010. A dedicated home maker, Leona also had worked throughout the years to help support the family, including several years at Milan Plastics and Donna's Bridal Shoppe. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maybee and its Christian Mothers Sodality, for which she also had served as Co-Chair. She was also a member of the Exeter Township Historical Society and the Great Lakes Chapter of the Fashion Doll Club. Leona was a very talented seamstress. She enjoyed quilting and making Barbie doll clothes. She loved going to the casinos, but her most treasured times were those spent with her children and grandchildren taking trips up-north or playing cards and board games, especially RUMMIKUB. Leona leaves to cherish her memory her children: Gregory Brant of Monroe, Ronald (Lonnie) Brant of Maybee, Carol (Eugene) Souva of Carleton, Michael (Sandra) Brant of Monroe, Kevin (Sharon) Brant of Maybee, Mary Brant of Monroe, Jeffrey (Sherry) Brant of Monroe; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was preceded in death by a grandson Kyle Femat; a granddaughter Donna Marie Brant; three brothers: Ralph Hess, Charles Hess and John Hess; as well as six sisters: Marie Blessing, Elizabeth LaBeau, Lucille Zink, Louise Mazur, Helen Liedel and Viola Gasper. In accordance with Leona's wishes, cremation has taken place. Per Leona's wishes, in lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Brendan Brant Trust Fund. An alternative could be the Divine Grace Christian Mother's Altar Society.
