Leo Cyril Boylan, age 95 of Monroe, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024.
Born April 25, 1929, Leo was the son of Leo and Irene (LaFaut) Boylan. He was the oldest of his 5 siblings. A graduate of Monroe High School, he married the love of his life, Mary Kathleen Green, on December 15, 1946. Sadly she preceded him in death October 29, 2020. Leo began working at a very young age at his family’s restaurant and at Monroe Golf & Country Club as a caddy and groundskeeper. Being a lefty he was “The Favorite Caddy” for left handed golfers. Four days after his 17th birthday Leo started working alongside many family members at Monroe Paper Company AKA Time Container and Jefferson Smurfit. He was always the “Go to Guy” to solve insurance and work related issues at the mill. In 1976 while still working full time at the papermill Leo started his very long and successful real estate career. First, with Grogan Realty and then with Monroe Real Estate. This would span the next 45 years keeping his license until 2021.
Nothing made him happier than helping his clients find “Their Perfect Home”. He became a member of the Million Dollar Club as early as 1981 and continued to produce sales of 2 and 3 million per year for the next 20 plus years. In 2017 he was awarded the distinguished status of Realtor Emeritus by the National Association of Realtors for 40 years of membership.
Leo was a faithful member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. With their many friends Leo and Mary loved to go dancing on Saturday nights at the Moose Lodge where he booked the bands. Leo loved to play cards especially euchre, which he was very good at. He loved going to Raceway Park in Toledo for the horse races and an occasional trip to the casino. They enjoyed taking trips with the Monroe Seniors. Two years in a row Leo won the Golden Mallet award in the croquet tournament at the Grand Hotel in Mackinaw. But most of all Leo loved his family and always wanted to feed them when they popped in. Leo was never too busy to lend a hand or give the “Best Advice” when asked. Though he will be greatly missed he will live on in our hearts and memories forever. He was truly one of a kind. The Best friend, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa and Great great Grandpa ever!
Leo leaves to cherish his memories his children: Kenneth (Scarlett) Boylan, Lorna (Michael) Ansel, Karen Boylan, Douglas Boylan and Karla (David) Evans, daughter in law Jane Boylan; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; as well as 2 sisters Agnes McCarthy and Noreen Hardman and several nieces and nephews . In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Boylan, an infant daughter and an infant granddaughter Kaitlyn, 3 siblings: Richard Boylan, Kathleen McCleod and Patricia Linkletter.
A celebration of Leo’s life has been planned under the care of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes-Allore Chapel. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 22nd at St. Michael Catholic Church. Visitation will be at 11:00am with a Mass of Resurrection at 12:00pm Burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and especially Julie Mominee RN and the staff at Brookdale for all the love and care shown to Leo.
Memorial contribution in honor of Leo may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Alzheimer’s Association.
