Kevin J. Visintainer

Visintainer, Kevin J., age 88 of Trenton, passed away April 13, 2020. Loving husband of the late Inez and Marilyn. Dear father of Brian Sr. and Sandra (Myron) Klos. Proud grandfather of Noelle, Brian Jr., Stephen, Sam, and Natalie. Great grandfather of Bentley. Also survived by his brother Carl. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Louise Visintainer. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. From humble beginnings in Parlett, Ohio, Kevin’s foundation was love of family, faith and hard work. His work ethic began in grade school when he was tasked with lighting the stove to heat the single room schoolhouse, hoeing the family garden and collecting valuable resources like tin and milkweed pods for the war effort. With the encouragement of his father to become educated and find work outside of the coal mines, he moved to Detroit after high school. He married his high school love, Inez Ferrell, on May 5, 1951. Receiving his draft notice soon after, he enlisted in the Air Force on November 1, 1951. Kevin and Inez spent four years in San Antonio, TX at Lackland Air Force Base where he was a drill instructor and eventually staff sergeant. He described these years as invaluable, forcing a young couple to grow up and be self-sufficient. Returning to Michigan, Kevin and Inez began a family. Brian joined them in 1959 followed by Sandy in 1961. With no sales experience and nothing but the drive to provide a comfortable life for his family, Kevin began a 58 year long career as a State Farm agent in Allen Park. He was recognized in the company for leadership and many sales achievements, always crediting his success to the support of Inez and his dedicated staff. To work for Kevin meant being a part of his family. He and Inez enjoyed traveling the world and watching the grandchildren grow up until her death in 2000. Two years later, long time family friend, Jeanne, became his wife, bringing a new wave of love and optimism. Kevin wore many hats. In the family’s younger years, he was active in church council and religious education at St. Timothy Church. Another gratifying role was that of hockey coach. He led a number of teams and was gifted with an ability to motivate and nurture talents. He was proud of his teams winning 3 state titles and a national title. Kevin’s most cherished role was Dad/Grandpa. Having perfected “the look”, he could advise with no words. With a hug and some sage advice, he could redirect an errant child. He was a champion for everyone’s efforts. Kevin will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. A friend and mentor to many, he was always ready to offer guidance and support. His wit, compassion and love will be greatly missed.
