Zook, Keith age 81, of Grosse Ile, passed away on Sept. 26, 2016. Loving husband of Lois Zook, father of Genevieve (James Busch) Zook, Sally (William) Davros, and Matthew Zook, grandfather of four grandchildren, Yanni, Katina, Ryley and Lynnette, survived by his brothers Robert (Lorrane) and Jon (Bev) Zook, many nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends, students, track and cross country team members. Keith was a dedicated educator of mathematics, physics and computer science at the Grosse Ile Township School District, retiring as Director of Instructional Technology in 1996 when he started his own business, Zook Technologies Services, and taught instructional technology in the classroom as an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy and Eastern Michigan University. He was an active member of several teaching associations including NEA (Past Member of the Board of Directors) Past Delegate to the World Confederation of Organizations of the Teaching Profession in Regina, Saskatchewan, Melbourne, Australia, and San Jose, Costa Rica. Past President of the Grosse Ile Education Foundation and board member of the Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Commission on Teacher/Faculty Morale, and produced a handbook on Improving Teacher/Faculty Morale. In 1978 he won the "Man of the Year Award," Women's Caucus, Michigan Education Association, 1979 "Connie Jackson Award," Third World Caucus, Michigan Education Association in recognition of his sensitivity and commitment to the elimination of racism from education institutions, and in 1986 won the "Giraffe Society Award," which honors those who stick their neck out and defy indifference. Five time Cross Country Coach of the Year, Huron Athletic League and three time Cross Country Coach of the Year, Downriver Area. He was a man admired for his commitment to education, his good-nature, his inclusiveness and belief that all it takes to learn a new skill is the ability to read. He was an excellent cook, wine and beer maker, loved camping, fishing, sailing, and gardening. He was a skilled craftsman and carpenter and known as the computer tech guy to friends on the Island. . He will be missed. Memorial services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, Grosse Ile, on Saturday, October 22, at 3pm and the family will also greet friends before the service at 2 pm. Interment immediately after in the Memorial Garden. Light refreshments will be provided after the Memorial Service at the church.
