Katie Fera

Katherine Dunaway Maier Fera of South Rockwood, MI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the age of 50 surrounded by family.

She is survived by her mother Linda Maier, sisters Jenny (Jim) VanGorp and Suzy (John) Olsen, her husband James Fera, and her children, Jameson, and Alleson, as well as many extended family members and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Richard.

Born on March 22, 1973, and known to all as Katie, she was a beautiful, kind, and big-hearted woman that brought laughter and liveliness to anyone she interacted with. With her quick wit and infectious smile, she was easily the life of any gathering.

As a special education teacher, Katie's love for children was evident in everything she did. Her classroom was her second home, and her students were her second family. She cherished her work because it allowed her to make a real difference in the lives of those she taught.

Katie was also a fun-loving spirit who knew how to make everyone feel special. Whether it was a quiet introspection at the river front, sitting around a bonfire at camp, a fun night out with her girls, or a full-on family gathering, she knew how to turn these moments into unforgettable memories.

But without a doubt, Katie’s most meaningful accomplishment was being a loving mother. She always knew she was destined to be a mom and was blessed with Jameson and Alleson. Katie loved her children fiercely. She will continue to love and watch over Jameson and Alleson always.

And, while we'll miss Katie dearly, we find comfort in knowing that she will always hold a special place in all of our hearts.

If you'd like to pay your respects, services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at The Martenson Funeral Home-Ford Chapel 23620 Huron River Dr, Rockwood, MI 48173

Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 6:00pm, with a small prayer service starting just after 5:00pm.

A celebration of life reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the South Rockwood Community Center on 5676 Carleton Rockwood Rd, South Rockwood, MI 48179. All are welcome.
