Kathy was born January 30th, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois. Always proud of her birthday she never failed to remind everyone around her when her birthday was. Maybe it was her wonderful addiction to presents – “You get me present?” was one of her favorite sayings! The family moved to Albion Michigan in 1972 where Kathy began her schooling at Doris Klaussen Developmental School in Calhoun County Michigan. She graduated at the age of 26 in 1993. Kathy loved growing up in the small town of Albion. She enjoyed activities such as bowling, swimming and going on family trips. The family would go to Gilman Illinois to visit Aunt Ginnie and Uncle Eddie and make winter trips to Treasure Island Florida where they enjoyed the warmth of the sun and the ocean waves. She worked at Albion College in the foodservice briefly, and later moved to Monroe Michigan in 1999 after her parents were deceased to move in with her sister & brother-in-law David & Grace Willer. About a year later in 2,000 Kathy had the opportunity to have her own apartment and chose to live at Elm House in Monroe, Michigan. When Kathy moved to Elm House she lived there many years enjoying herself, apartment life and having roomies. She worked for a short time at CSDD (Community Center for the Developmentally Disabled) in Monroe and would go to day programming, which got her out and involved in the community. She enjoyed bowling and working in the local community before moving to Carleton and living at the Ash Street Home. Just recently in April she moved back to Monroe under the care of Samaritas and lived at the 9th street group home before her passing. Kathy in Albion learned to swim and loved it. She even went to Central Michigan University and competed in the Special Olympics swimming competition. She collected many medals throughout the years. She enjoyed going to camp in the summers, both Holiday Camp in Monroe and YMCA Camp Copneconic in Fenton Michigan Kathy had several hobbies. She had a passion for professional wrestling, and she would often watch the sport from her vast DVD collection. Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker were two of her favorites. Kathy also enjoyed latch-hooking rugs, coloring, and doing word search puzzles. She also loved going out to eat with the family and opening presents. She could never get enough presents. Her smile upon opening them would light up the room. As she got older her vision became a challenge, but she still could do latch hooking and was always up to go out to eat. She almost always picked McDonalds and wanted a hamburger, fries, and a coke. Kathy never complained and was a real trooper. When she would meet someone new she would always extend her hand to shake theirs. She loved her family and always asked if she could go up to see her brother Steve. And it was one of her last wishes to fly out to Las Vegas to see her brother Kenna. She enjoyed day tripping with her sister Grace and longtime friend Shellie MaVeal to Amish country or just for a meal. She is survived by her brothers Steve Grob in Fenton Michigan, Kenna James (wife Julie) of Las Vegas, Nevada and one sister Grace Willer (husband David Willer) of Maybee, Michigan. She had several Nieces and nephews, Claire, Emily, & Ben Grob Christopher, Michael, & Cara Willer, and Brooke Warnick, Jimmy & Spencer Grob. Her parents, and several aunts and uncles preceded her in death. A celebration of Kathy’s life will take place on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Faith Baptist Church: 2266 Sandy Creek Road. Friends may gather from 1pm until a memorial service at 2pm. Lunch and social gathering will follow.
