Kathleen Elizabeth Cigan, 93, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at her home in Belleville surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 13, 1926, to Katherine E. (Bauman) and John Wagner and grew up in Flat Rock with brothers Ernest, Jack, and Richard Wagner. After graduating from Flat Rock High School in 1944, and Michigan State University in 1948, Kathleen went to work for Bundy Tubing as their advertising magazine editor. In 1951, Kathleen married Arthur B. Cigan (Barney), also an MSU graduate, and they raised five children in Trenton. She started subbing, and teaching, eventually earning her education degree from Wayne State University in 1968, and then her Master of Education degree in 1976. Kathleen was very active in the Trenton Teachers Association and retired from Trenton Public Schools in 1991. While in Trenton, she was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, the First United Methodist Church, and her bridge club. Shortly after retiring, Kathleen moved to Suttons Bay to be near her daughters Cheryl and Carolyn, and her family. She built a house overlooking the bay and made it her home for more than 20 years. While in Suttons Bay, Kathleen was active in the Big Sisters Program, was an officer for Club 20, and was a member of the Suttons Bay Congregational Church. In 2013, Kathleen moved in with her daughter, Nancy, and her family in Midland, and then later in 2016, she moved in with her son Randy, and his family in Belleville. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Barney, and her three brothers. She is survived by her five children, Randall (Vera) Cigan, Cheryl Cigan, Nancy (Chris) Ware, Carolyn (David) Faught, and Janet (Michael) Brindley; grandchildren Terashawn Kinzel, Kaare Cigan, Michael Ware, Carrie Nemecek, Samuel Faught, William Faught, Charles Brindley, and Dylan Brindley; and great-grandchildren Charles, Nick, Leif and Kris Kinzel, Henry and Vada Ware, Caiden, Madison, and Westin Nemecek. Our angel, Kathleen, will be remembered for her kindness and selflessness. She loved her family, sewing, gardening, and traveling to England to tour the famous English Gardens. She also traveled to Europe with her youngest daughter, Janet. She was loved by all, and will be missed by all who knew her. Immediate private funeral services will be held at the Trenton Martenson Funeral Home, 3200 West Road, Trenton, MI, 48640 on Sunday, June 7, 2020. Limited visitation will be from 12:30 – 1:30, with a short service following. An outdoor processional to Michigan Memorial Park will leave at 2:15. There will be a celebration of Kathleen’s life at a later date when larger gatherings are permitted. Kathleen would want us to follow the covid pandemic health rules to keep everyone safe. Memorials can be made to the charity of one’s choice, with possible suggestions of diabetes, cancer, horticulture, heart, church, children’s causes, etc.
