Obituary of Josephine R. Karmazin Josephine R. Karmazin, age 93 of Grosse Ile, Michigan, died May 9, 2015 at the Oakwood Southshore Medical Center in Trenton, Michigan following a brief illness. Born on February 9, 1922 in New York, New York to John Karmazin, Sr. and Rose Marie Karmazin, Josephine moved with her parents and younger brother, John, Jr., to Grosse Ile in 1926. Two years later her youngest brother, Theodore, was born. Josephine attended the Grosse Ile Schools until high school when she transferred to the University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe Woods where she graduated in 1939. Josephine then attended Bradford Junior College in Haverhill, Massachusetts where she earned an associate degree in 1941. After college, Josephine pursued a professional career that featured working more than thirty years as a realtor selling and appraising residential properties in Downriver following a fourteen year tenure as a senior manager at the Karmazin Products Corporation in Wyandotte. Josephine led a highly active lifestyle that included competitive sailing, snow skiing, outdoor photography and gardening early in life while she played golf from her youth until declining health forced her to quit the game at age 88. She was involved in numerous community, social and civic organizations for decades although she mostly participated in activities of the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church during her later years. Josephine is survived by her brother Ted (Nancy) Karmazin, nephew Greg (Nicole) Karmazin, sister-in-law Sandy Karmazin (wife of the late John Karmazin, Jr.) as well as nieces Anne Marie (Richard) Schoonhoven and Julie Karmazin. The Karmazin family is having a memorial service for Josephine at the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July 26, 11:30 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Grosse Ile Musicale Scholarship Fund, c/o Gene T.
