Joseph D. Steinman, Sr. Age 84 of Monroe, passed away peacefully November 13, 2018 at 1:35am at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Monroe. Born December 12, 1933 in Monroe, Joseph was the son of Henry A. and Esther (VanSlambrouck) Steinman, Sr. Joseph married Irene Mary Anson January 17, 1959 at St. John Catholic Church in Monroe. He worked as a professional interior and exterior painter and designer for over 35 years throughout Monroe and also as the Building and Grounds Supervisor for the County of Monroe for 30 years, retiring in 1999. Joseph enjoyed gardening, fishing, painting and especially spending time with his family. He enjoyed walking the Mackinac Bridge and loved going up north, which he loving referred to as "God's Country". Joseph was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Monroe. Joseph leaves to cherish his memory his wife Irene M. Steinman of Monroe; children Joseph (Connie) Steinman, Jr. of Oswego, IL, formerly of Monroe and Martha, "Marty" (Jeffery) Falkenberg of Monroe; grandchildren Melissa M. (Jordan) Smith of Monroe, Nicole R. (Carlos) Ruvalcaba of Monroe, Olivia E. Steinman of Tallahassee, FL and Andrew J. (Rebekah) Steinman of Monroe; great grandchildren Emma, Lane, Skylar, Alexa and Benedict; siblings George (Shirley) Steinman of Monroe, Barbara (Jacob) Richter of Ann Arbor and Wennie (Ben) Anderson of Monroe; and sister-in-law Betty Jo Steinman of Lambertville. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Esther Steinman, Sr, stepmother Beulah Steinman and siblings Hester Beaudry, Lillian Grant and Henry A. Steinman II. Friends may call Thursday from 5-8pm and Friday from 11-8pm at The Allore Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 203 E. Elm Ave., Monroe. There will be a scripture service Friday 7pm at the funeral home. Funeral Mass Saturday, where he'll lay in state 10am until 11am, Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 127 N. Monroe Street, Monroe. Fr. David Burgard will officiate. Interment at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church Organ Restoration Fund or memorial donations to the Rogel Cancer Center Patient and Family Support Services Program at the University of Michigan.
