John William Marchyok, 80, of Trenton, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, March 8th, 2023. John was husband to Jean, father to Tracey (Will), Lynn (Tom), Andrea (Neil), Matthew (Terry), uncle to Erin, Justin, Taylor and grandfather (Papa) to Seamus, Abbey (Ryan), Megan (Caleb), Liam, Leo, Rose and Henry. John was born in Delray, Michigan in 1942 and grew up in River Rouge, Michigan, where he attended Our Lady of Lourdes School (`61) and met the love of his life, Jean Wolske (m1965), of River Rouge. Aside from being a star fullback in football and all-around athlete, John eventually pursued an occupation in the business world.
From 1964-1971, John served in the United States Marines Reserves. The Marines would play a critical role in developing John’s identity as a citizen, husband, father and man. Oorah!
John understood the important role that technology would play in our world and, after business school, began a career in data processing. His career spanned from learning basic coding to eventually becoming an executive director, overseeing operations. These formative years also fed John’s interests of tennis and, especially, golf.
John had the privilege of welcoming four beautiful children into the world over the years 1966-1974. He would inspire his children to think critically of the world, never stop exploring, understand the power of the written word and how important exercise plays in staying a healthy person. Between the years of 1995-2007, Papa’s grandchildren were born and began a lifelong love, pride and admiration watching these remarkable children become upstanding young men and women.
John’s deepest and truest love in this world was his best friend, Jean. For fifty-seven, yes, 57 years, they were married. Since 1968, they lived together on Lynn Court, always welcoming neighbors, friends, and being home-base for children and families to spend time together. The love they had for each other and family was foundational, influencing generations of loved ones to be there for each other, especially when difficult times arose.
