John W. Jamison, 63, of South Rockwood, passed away at his home Thursday morning after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. Born August 28, 1952 in Wyandotte, MI, John was the first-born son of Lovel & Lona (Potter) Jamison. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Belinda Kay. John is survived by his loving daughter Jeannie (Tyler) Grant of Indianapolis, Indiana; devoted brothers Lovel (Judy) Jamison Jr., Ronald Jamison, Donald Jamison, sister Tammy (Craig) Fleming; and his former wife and lifelong friend, Jelena Jamison Cribbis, also of South Rockwood. He graduated from Ecorse High School in 1970. John worked for Ford Motor Company at the Woodhaven Stamping Plant for 35 years before retiring in 2006. During his 35 years at Ford, he was never late to work once and was named Employee of the Month on several occasions. John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He took annual trips to Hastings, Michigan with his brothers and nephew to go deer hunting. He enjoyed fishing for walleye and perch in the Detroit River and Lake Erie. His motto for retirement was that "a bad day fishing beats a good day working." John always had an appreciation for fast cars and fondly recalled racing his 1969 Dodge Charger and 1974 Chevy Corvette in his younger days. He also enjoyed hosting Friday night poker games in his home with his brothers, nephew Lovel, and next-door neighbor Ralph Penner. He was very devoted to his family and traveled to Kentucky and southern Ohio annually to attend Jamison Family Reunions. John was a dearly loved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He was known for his great sense of humor, sarcasm, and quick wit. John could lighten any mood in a matter of minutes and thoroughly enjoyed making people laugh. He joked for years that the back of his headstone should read "Final Words: 'See, I told you I was sick.'" That gift of humor remained with him even in his final days.
