John T. Peters

John T. Peters, age 67, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the University of Michigan Hospital, after a 1 month stay in their Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit surrounded by his family. Upon his death, he became a tissue and bone donor through the Gift of Life. Born in Monroe, John was the son of Kenneth and Helen (Fix) Peters. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from February 4, 1969 until February 3, 1975, serving 2 tours of duty during the Vietnam War stationed in Thailand. John was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters. He recently attended the 50th reunion of the Air Force Spectre Division. John married the love of his life, Linda Miller, on November 4, 1978 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kalamazoo, a wedding that will never be forgotten. John worked for Chrysler for over 41 years, retiring in 2008 from the Trenton Engine Plant. He was a faithful member of St. Charles Catholic Church and the NRA. John was an avid U of M Football fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. John leaves to cherish his memory, Linda, his wife of the past 38 years; children: Patrick J. Peters of China Township and Erin L. (Ryan) Johnson of Monroe; siblings: Barbara Larrow of Monroe, Catherine (Tom) Ballard of Chesaning and Charles (Sharan) Peters of Monroe. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in honor of John are asked to consider St. Charles, Changing Lives Together, or St. Charles Catholic Church.
