John A. Shemwell

John A. Shemwell passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at the age of 60. Born on April 9, 1966, John will be remembered with love by those who knew him and by the family who held such an important place in his life.

John dedicated 25 years of service to the City of Trenton before his retirement, a milestone reflecting his steady commitment and hard work. Beyond his career, he found fellowship and community through his memberships with VFW Post 4230 in Gibraltar, Michigan, where he was an auxiliary member, and the Loyal Order of Moose 966 in Woodhaven, Michigan. These connections were part of the life he built and the many relationships that brought meaning to his days.

At the heart of John’s life was his family. He is survived by his children, Angela Lillian Shemwell and Jesse (Caitlin) Shemwell. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Sofia Francesca Ellis and Jake Shemwell, who were a cherished part of his family circle. John is further survived by his sisters and brother: Diane (John) Bennett, Robbin (Brian) Eritano, Renel (Brad) Gerwig, and Robert (Holly) Shemwell. He also leaves behind Charlie, his dog, a faithful companion who shared in the rhythms of his daily life.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Denise and her husband, George Perhase. As his family and friends remember him, they will carry forward the memory of his years of work, the communities he was part of, and the enduring bonds he shared with those closest to him.

Visitation for John will be held on November 10, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at The Trenton Chapel - Martenson Family Of Funeral Homes, 3200 West Rd, Trenton, MI 48183. A Family Sharing Service will follow there at 6:00 p.m.

John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
