Born in Benton Harbor, Michigan on a beautiful spring day in 1931 to the joy of Edith (Soper) Romoser and Willard Romoser, Joanne returned to the Lord from the comfort of her Monroe home the evening of January 26. Younger sister Jean Tacy was at her side Joanne was a strong, independent, marvelous woman who put herself through Indiana University at a time in the '50s when not many girls went to school out of state. She was smart, had the most beautiful smile and loved gym class where she discovered basketball at Benton Harbor High at a time when girls didn't dribble or take steps, let alone have an organized team outside of gym class. Jo moved to Monroe in 1958, got her Master's Degree from UM and was a physical education teacher for Monroe Public Schools for 28 years. Prior to coming to Monroe, she taught in both Munising and Fairplain. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she sat in "her" seat in the same pew for more than 40 years. Jo loved playing cards w/ her friends, going to the occasional play, museum or concert, animal welfare and her many cats over the years. Jo never married so was especially close to her two nephews David (1963-1982) and Michael (b. 1962), her brother Bill (& Anne's) boys who recall Aunt Jo being the one to give them their first grown upthings such as transistor radios, first camera, first pair of Adidas running shoes. As a gym teacher, it was Aunt Jo who helped them both get their Presidential Physical Fitness Awards in the early '70s. She leaves (for now) her sister Jean Tacy of Watervliet, Michigan, her brother Willard "Bill" (Anne) Romoser of LakelandFlorida, nephew Michael (Tracy) Romoser, great niece Katherine Romoser and great nephew David K. Romoser, all of Seattle. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law Robert Tacy and a nephew David A. Romoser. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be celebrated March 10th at 11:00 am, First Presbyterian Church in Monroe; all are welcome. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in honor of Joanne are asked to consider the Monroe County Humane Society or First Presbyterian Church.
