Joan Blanchette-Brooks of Newport passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Southshore Hospital Hospice Center in Trenton, Michigan. She was the daughter of Ernest and Hazel (Bondy) Blanchett and married Carl Brooks in October of 1973. Joan was the sister of Norman (Loretta) Blanchett and Very Reverend Melvin Blanchette P.S.S. of Baltimore, Maryland. Joan was a lifelong member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Newport and was active in the Altar Society and was a festival dinner worker. Joan loved to cook and in her younger years was a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed tending her yard and flower beds. Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Detroit Tigers and a good game of euchre were very enjoyable activities for her. For the last six years she has lived at Alice Lorraine in Monroe and met many new friends and made lasting relationships with the wonderful staff there. Joan also had sixteen nieces and nephews whom she called the "Sweet 16", all of them loved her very much along with many more great nieces and nephews and friends from Newport and beyond. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl, parents, sister Joyce (Raymond) Beaudrie and brother Thomas Blanchett. Memorials may be made to St. Charles Academy.
