Joan Godfrey-Maples

Joan Godfrey-Maples, age 89 of Westland, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015. Loving mother of Carole "Renie" (Wayne) Thoney, Larry (Joyce) Godfrey, Pam (Todd) Wyett, Robin (Joe) Padula, and Richard Godfrey. Proud grandma of eight and great-grandma of eleven. Joan is also survived by other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Richard K. Godfrey and Glenn Maples, her parents, Harvey and Myrtle Phillips, her two brothers, and three sisters. Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. She also loved to play the organ and when she was a child, she played piano on the radio on Sundays. Most importantly, Joan was a very dedicated mother who always put her family first. In addition to taking care of her family, she worked outside of the home as a clerk and property manager for an apartment complex and she was a "Rosie Riveter" during WWII. Joan will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 am to 1 pm at the Trenton Chapel of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes with a service at 1 pm. Entombment at Michigan Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Joan may be made out to the Josephine Ford Cancer Center or the charity of the donor's choice.
