Jean Redman

Jean Elvira Stewart Redman, age 90, passed away peacefully in her favorite chair at her home in Rockwood, Michigan on January 26, 2019. For all of us who loved her, she was known by many names; Mom, Grandma by the Water, Grandma Jean, G2, Aunt Jeanie to name a few. Jean was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 24, 1928 to John and Julia Stewart. She married Henry F. Redman on May 9, 1948 and they had 7 children. He preceded her in death on January 16, 1996. As a young mother, Jean was very active with her family. She played softball with her daughters, camped with her grandchildren, silk-screened posters for her husband’s campaign, drove her sons to hockey practice and traveled frequently throughout the United States and occasionally to Canada. She loved Vegas and didn’t mind getting her fingers a bit dirty at the Stampede machine, where she won often. Jean worked at McDonald’s in Flat Rock for many years until she retired at the young age of 73. Jean was technically savvy; she texted on her iPhone, did on-line banking, ordered from Amazon, played all kinds of brain games and puzzles on her iPad, downloaded recipes from Facebook, programmed her cable DVR and binge-watched Netflix, The Crown was one of her favorites! She did daily crosswords in pen, because she was just that good. To beat her at scrabble, we’d often gang up on her… 2 or 3 to 1. She was witty and her comical timing was uncanny. She insisted on living life on her terms; she couldn’t wait for self-driving cars because she didn’t want to give up her driver’s license. Jean is survived by her children and spouses; Sharlene (Larry) Bagierek, Kathy (Chris Low) Redman, Forrest (Margaret) Redman, Cari (Jamie Moss) Galloro, Dianna Redman (daughter-in-law); 12 grandchildren; C.J. (Kimberly) Bagierek, Derek (Kristi) Bagierek, Jenise (Sam) Doutsas, Marty (Marnie) Peters, Matt Redman, Mike Redman, Emily (Eric) Mills, Ian (Jamie Cameron) Redman, Brandon Galloro, Alix (Adam) Krouse, Dru (Katie O’Dell) Redman, Trevor Redman; 9 great grandchildren: Nick Bagierek, Evan Bagierek, Brock Bagierek, Abigail Krouse, Anthony Krouse, Benjamin Mills, Stella Mills, Oliver Mills… and two more on the way! In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Patrick A. Redman (2017) and Daniel T. Redman (2013) and her infant still-born daughter, Patricia.
