Jane Anne Romatowski

It is with immeasurable sadness that the family of Jane Romatowski must announce her sudden passing on March 8th, 2018, at the age of 85 years. Jane attended Marygrove College (1953) for her undergraduate studies, earned her Masters from the University of Detroit (1957) and received her doctorate in education at Wayne State University(1972). Her career started as a teacher in the Detroit public schools and culminated as the Interim Dean in the School of Education at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She enjoyed a rich life as an educator, author, mentor and role model. During her time at U of M-Dearborn she created and administered the annual Young Author's Conference for 17 years. The Young Author's Conference inspired approximately 5,000 children to engage in their imaginations through creative writing. She had a passion for training education students in the best ways to engage with their young students and make a lasting impact on their lives. It is impossible to estimate exactly how many lives she touched, as her influence spread not only to her students but to her students' students. She was a woman of many achievements, and was most proud of receiving the Susan B. Anthony Award (1992), Professor Emeritus at U of M-Dearborn (2001) and was looking forward to receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from Delta Kappa Gamma (International Society for Key Women Educators). Jane was a lover of the arts, music, theatre, dance, and ballet; she loved it all. She was an avid reader, writer and an active parishioner at St. Timothy Parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, and especially loved being a member of the Resurrection Choir. Jane cherished, and was cherished by her family and friends, and it is with heavy hearts that the world moves on without her. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Stanley, who she cared for with cheerful compassion for the nine years that he was ill before his death. She loved him so deeply and completely until the very end. A perfect example of marriage commitment. They are united again in paradise. She is also preceded by her two brothers, Joe and Frank who filled her life with laughter. She is survived by her daughters Marie (Jim) Thomas and Nancy (Rudy) Valentini, grandchildren David, Michael, Alex, and Lauren, sisters-in-law Evelyn (Joseph) Pecherski and Joy (Frank) Pecherski, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
