Janice Carol Albright was born on March 20, 1934, into the home of Guy and Mary Holtzhouse, in Detroit, Michigan. Jan passed away on September 3, 2023, at the home of her youngest daughter, Marti Kuhfal, where Jan had resided for the last three years. She was 89 years of age.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents Guy and Mary Holtzhouse; her brother Guy, Jr. (Ruth) Holtzhouse; her sister, Mary Lou Felten; an infant sister, Martha Jean Holtzhouse; and brother-in-law Paul DeVries. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Donald Sr. (Skip).
Jan is survived by her six, children, Don (Grace) Albright, Gary (SuzAnne) Albright, Mary Lockhart, John (Michelle) Albright, Marti (Gary) Kuhfal, and Wayne (Michelle) Albright. Also surviving are her sisters Jean DeVries and Sally (Richard) Hornick. Jan is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Jan graduated from Redford High School in Detroit in 1951 and began working in the office of Superior Welding and Press Repair, where she met Skip and was married on September 12, 1952. Jan began a lifetime of dedicated and devoted care for her home and family, during which she was always engaged in endless avenues of service which was purposed in the Gospel and energized by her loving and cheerful service to others. Jan served faithfully for many years at Joy Road Baptist Church in Detroit, serving as a Sunday School teacher, children’s club leader, Good News Club director in the local public elementary school and as a yearly summer Vacation Bible School worker.
Jan’s hobbies were fueled by her passion to be a blessing to others. She was a wonderful seamstress, making her own clothes and untold dozens of baby blankets presented to every newborn she knew. She also was noted for her baking, making weekly batches of sweetbreads to be presented to church staff or first-time visitors to the services of InterCity Baptist Church. She also was limitless in her production of home-made greeting and get-well cards that were presented to anyone whom she felt was in need of encouragement. Serving for many years as the receptionist at InterCity Baptist Church, she made sure that the pastoral staff and seminarians were well stocked with mints, candy and gum.
Jan kept detailed and lengthy prayer lists which were well-worn from daily use. She also was a student of the Word with an extensive library of resource materials to aid in her preparations for her participation in the “Women of the Word” Bible studies at church.
The entire family and friends of Jan are eternally grateful for the dedicated, sacrificial and loving care that daughter Marti, her husband Gary and her family have given over the last three years to enhance and improve Jan’s life in her declining years. All those who knew Jan rejoice that her justification in Christ at an early age, her continual path of sanctification growth throughout her life and now her glorification status in heaven, wonderfully reflects her love for the Word, her dedication to Christ and her service for others during her life.
