James A Smith aka "Smokey", age 86, of Lincoln Park, Michigan passed away Friday November 12th, 2021. Smokey was born in Cordele, Georgia on November 24,1934. Smokey is survived by his Beloved four Children Michael, Lori (Sam) Gerardi, Jamie, Colleen (Mike) Northcott and his Grandchildren Mitchell, Marisa, Natalie, Alex, Zachary, Courtney, Sammy, Nico his Great Granddaughter Rylee and Sisters Earlene (Ken), Betty and Trisha(Ken). Smokey was preceded in death by his Mother Alma (Brown) Mann and Sister Katherine. Smokey worked at the Great Lakes Steel Zug Island facility for 42 years from January of 1955 until his retirement in January of 1997. He also worked over 20 years as a Security guard at the K mart store in Southgate. Smokey was blessed to celebrate almost 30 years of sobriety in the Downriver AA community and he also served most of those 30 years sponsoring fellow AA members and providing guidance along the way. He was well known in the AA community as he helped so many others out in the program. He volunteered in many ways such as arranging AA picnic's, making coffee purchasing donuts and most importantly serving as a Sponsor to many over those 30 years. There was only one Smokey Smith in the Downriver community. We like to think of him as the Elvis Presley of Downriver. Those who knew him remembered him by his Jazzy way of dressing and his love of Fancy cars. He had so many sayings that he repeated throughout his life *Easy Does It *One Day At A Time * If You Don't Have Family What Do You Have? Smokey will be remembered by many and Forever missed by his children and grandchildren. Please join us at the Martenson funeral home Allen Park chapel on Saturday November 27th from 1 to 9 pm to Celebrate Smokeys life. The service will begin at 6:30 PM and we invite any friends of Smokey and Bill W to join us and share your stories and tell us how Smokey Impacted your Life.
