James Robert Johnston

James Robert Johnston, age 80 of Farmington, formerly of Newport, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022. Born April 20, 1942 in Del Ray, Michigan, James was the son of Harold and Hope (Blasberg) Johnston Jr. He married the love of his life, Susann Meiden, on August 25, 1972. Sadly she preceded him in death November 19, 1993. A faithful member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Newport and St. James Catholic Church in Port Richey, Florida, James also served as a Eucharist Minister. He was a founding member of the Berlin Township Parks and Recreation. James was somewhat of a renaissance man and had many diversified interests and hobbies. He had founded a correspondence school for Parapsychology, was a substitute Singer for the Detroit Metropolitan Opera, he translated Hieroglyphics for the Detroit Institute of Art. He also was an avid gardener and enjoyed mountain climbing. James leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Rebecca (Daniel) DeSloover; three grandchildren: Jade, Monet and India-Rose; as well as two sisters; Judith Koliba and Dawn (James) Taylor. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a son Damon and an infant brother Paul.
