James Michael Welsh

James Michael Welsh, 69, of Southgate and Allen Park passed away on Dec. 17, a short time after the death of his mother Margaret Welsh, who died Nov. 18 in Allen Park. Known as Jim, Welsh was born and raised in Allen Park.

As a youth, Welsh was a sandlot baseball legend in Allen Park. He played short stop, was an outstanding fielder and very strong hitter. In high school, Welsh was an outstanding athlete and played varsity baseball for Allen Park High School for three years. He graduated from Allen Park High in 1971. Jim went on to play college baseball and received a scholarship to both Saint Clair Community College in Port Huron and Wayne State University.

He worked his entire career in the freight logistics industry. He was divorced and had no children. Jim’s wishes were to have no service and to be cremated. His ashes will be spread along with his mother’s ashes near his father’s grave in Brownstown Township.
