James was born on April 26, 1940 in Harlan, Kentucky and went Home to be with the Lord on September 26, 2021 at the age of 81; he was of Dearborn Heights. Cherished husband of 61 years to the late Connie. Loving dad of Cheryl (Jon) Isom, Carrie (Grady) Keck and Tom (Lisa) Shoemaker. Proud papaw of Drew (Leslie), the late Jonathon, Deanna (John), Anna, and Jacob. James is also known as papaw to his great grandchildren; Peyton, Andrew, Mason, Lucy, Sadie, baby boy on the way, Wyatt and Jewel. Dearest brother of Lewis (Jean), the late Julia (the late Larry), Sue (the late Rick), Paula (Jim), Russ and David (Gina). Also survived by many other loving family, Church family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents Louis A. and Grace (nee: Logan) Shoemaker. The Lord and James’ family were his love in life. He proudly served his Country in the United States Army and was a long-time member of the Wick Road Baptist Church in Taylor. James enjoyed metal fabricating, woodworking and was an avid outdoorsman. Visitation in on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 3 – 8 pm at The Allen Park Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 10915 Allen Rd. (Corner of Goddard). The funeral service is at the funeral home on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 10 am; Pastor Lanny Phillips will officiate. The interment will be immediately following the service and will be at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Huron Twp., MI. There will not be a procession to the Cemetery; everyone is invited to meet the family at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to honor James’ life may be made to Jesus Centered Ministries for Nicaragua Child and Family, PO Box 7111 Knoxville, Tennessee 37921
