Ivan Johnson Rinne

Ivan Johnson Rinne, of Mass City, MI., went home to be with the Lord, November 16, 2018. Services will be held Saturday December 1, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Monroe, MI. 315 Scott St., Monroe, MI.. Lie-In-State will be take place from 10 AM until services at 11:30 AM. Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth will officiate. Internment will follow at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, Huron Township, MI. Ivan lived a life that was larger than life. He met every day with ambition and charged ahead. His passions were skiing and people. An amazing person with an amazing life, he had a huge heart and compassion for everyone. There were no strangers in Ivan's world - he opened his arms and touched every person he met in so many ways. He will be remembered as a charismatic, unforgettable presence who lit up the room with his smile. Often called an old soul, Ivan was wise well beyond his 16 years. He shared that wisdom with everyone he met and had unfailing patience, teaching people what he knew. A strong handshake, a confident walk, and enormous, tight hugs are common memories. Many nicknames were given to Ivan: Ivanator, Flyin Ivan and Ivan the Charger, among others. He inspired people to find joy in everything they did and live their life to the fullest. A family motto, "Live the Dash," was embodied in Ivan, and the strength of his character will live on in those he left behind. Ivan stared fear in the face and laughed at it. For Ivan, it was more than courage, it was the essence of his being. He had a deep faith, and was taught never to fear death but to embrace it as a fitting end to a beautiful life. Ivan had no fear because his faith was so strong - a lesson he wanted everyone to learn. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." (Psalm 23:4). Ivan lived a life of adventure in Ontonagon County in the far western Upper Peninsula. He is survived by his parents John and Kirsten (Johnson) Rinne, his grandfather Gayland Rinne, his grandmother Valerie (Beattie) Johnson, aunts Carolyne (Thomas) Lynch, Debra (Paul) Dushane, Donna Rinne, Jody (Mark) Swank, uncles Gregory (Elaina) Johnson, David (Michele) Rinne, and a large extended family of cousins. He is preceded in death by grandmother Joann Rinne and grandfather Donald Johnson. Ivan is on a new adventure, and his family on a new journey. His strength will keep us going, and keep our faith strong, until the day we meet again. Ivan lived his dash. He is with us and within us. Always.
