Irene B. Reichwage

Irene B. Reichwage (Doyon), was born January 5, 1934 in Detroit,
Michigan to Joseph and Josephine Doyon. She graduated from
Wyandotte Roosevelt High School, where she met her husband James
Reichwage. They were married immediately upon his return from the
Korean War and started a family in Trenton, Michigan. They were
married for 53 years prior to James’ passing.
Irene passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 30, 2024.
She is survived by her son Randall (Chantal) Reichwage, daughter Dawn
(David) Portelli, son-in-law William Smereka, seven grandchildren
Nathaniel (Samantha) Reichwage, Max (Eva) Reichwage, Stephanie
(Arthur) Treusch, Melissa Reichwage, Michael (Lauren) Portelli,
Alexandra Smereka, and Josephine Smereka, as well as five great-
grandchildren, two of whom are named for her. In addition to her
husband James, Irene is preceded in death by her daughter Jill
Smereka, her brother Joseph Doyon, and her parents Joseph and
Josephine Doyon.
Irene worked as a keypunch operator at Penn Central Railroad as well
as at Diversey Wyandotte, and she met many lifelong friends there.
Irene loved playing Bunco with friends and family, and playing Bingo
with her grandchildren. Irene had a love for traveling; she cruised the
Hawaiian Islands, Alaska, Holland, Amsterdam, and the Netherlands.
She also loved road trips; she enjoyed her trips to Mackinac Island,
Niagara Falls, as well as traveling from Michigan to California and back
twice, stopping at almost every state in-between. She enjoyed fishing,
boating, and swimming with friends and family at Estral Beach. She
enjoyed doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren, all of whom she
helped take care of at one point or another while she watched them
grow up.
Visitation with the family will take place at The Trenton Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 3200 West Rd., Trenton on July 20, 2024 from 12:00 until 3:00 pm.
