A devoted, hard working homemaker and mother of five, Irene had worked as a cook at Drouillard's Restaurant, Holiday Inn of Monroe, Big Boy and the IHM Motherhouse. She was member of First Presbyterian Church and was very active with their book club. Irene was a member of the Elizabeth Circle and a Deacon in the church. She also as a member of Monroe County Humane Society. Along with being an avid reader, Irene loved gardening and was a prolific knitter, having knitted hundreds of toys and clothing for not only her family but local charities as well.
