Herbert Glenn Krueger, age 78 of Jerome, formerly of Monroe, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson. Born November 10, 1942 in Monroe, Herb was the son of Herbert and Zella (Hayes) Krueger. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and was a 1961 graduate of Monroe High School. Herb attended Cleary College in Ypsilanti and received a degree in Business. While attending Cleary, Herb was a member and President of Tau Kappa Delta fraternity. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era and was a member of Monroe VFW Post 1138. In high school Herb met the love of his life, Joyce Godek. They were married on February 14, 1980. They enjoyed traveling and antiquing around the country and in Europe collecting Majolica Pottery. They would have celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary this Valentine’s Day. While in Monroe Herb attended Trinity Lutheran Church. Most recently he became an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, Irish Hills. Herb worked in sales service for Time Container and in management at Continental Bakery followed by a long and successful career with Newport State Bank, Security Bank, and Monroe Bank and Trust. One of his favorite activities while at MBT was participating in the annual 4-H Livestock Auction. Herb actively served on the Monroe County United Way Fund Distribution Committee, first as Treasurer on the Board of Directors and then going on to become the Monroe County United Way Campaign Chairman in 1992. Herb was well-known as an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was a lifetime supporter of Ducks Unlimited and their efforts to conserve and create wildlife habitats. As a member of the Monroe Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, Herb held the following positions: Monroe Chapter Area Chairman, twice; Michigan Southeast Zone Chairman and Michigan Southeast District Chairman. He was a Diamond Sponsor in Perpetuity Major Donor and Grand Slam Major Donor, which benefit Ducks Unlimited in North America, Canada and Mexico. Herb enjoyed time spent in Arizona with his daughter and family, and especially playing Yahtzee with his grandchildren. Herb was known to be notoriously competitive and loved playing/winning a variety of card games: Texas Hold’em and poker each week with his “Geezer Guys” card group; cribbage with Walter from Wilderness Hunting Camp at Carrot River in Saskatchewan, Canada … and let’s not forget those knuckle-busting euchre games with his family and friends. Loved ones celebrating Herb’s life are Joyce, his wife; daughter Nicole (Craig) Orent; grandchildren Ethan and Kierra; two siblings, Nancy DuPont and Larry (Claudia) Krueger; nieces, nephews, cousins; DU family, MBT co-workers and customers; Tau Kappa Delta fraternity brothers and many, many friends. To honor Herb’s wishes, cremation arrangements have been made with the Allore Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on public gatherings, celebrations of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers and cards, Memorial contributions to honor Herb Krueger may be made to the Monroe Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, P.O. Box 2432, Monroe, Michigan 48161.
