Henry Dziedzic

Henry (Hank) Dziedzic was born in Southwest Detroit on April 22, 1933. His parents, Joseph and Anna (Wozna) Dziedzic, had eight children, one of whom died in childhood. One of Hank’s earliest memories was of playing cars with his best friend Tony; he would go on to work in the automobile industry, first as a draftsman at a supply shop and then for Cadillac Motor. He advanced in the company to engineer and eventually served as Design Room Supervisor at the GM Tech Center. During his years at GM, Hank played in the company’s golf league. Golf was a lifelong passion of his, and he often said that in his next life he hoped to play well enough to turn pro. In 1965 Hank married Geri Gucfa. The two had grown up in the same neighborhood and both attended Chadsey High School in Detroit, but they did not meet until years later on a blind date. Hank was devoted to Geri and their children, Mike and Nancy, for 51 years. In retirement, the couple loved to travel and spend time with their grandchildren–Adam, Vivienne, and Alec–as well as many other children and young people who were attracted to their kindness and fun-loving spirit. Hank’s wry sense of humor and mischief kept all of his family on their toes, including his daughter-in-law Cyndy Bear, who lovingly cared for him in his last hours, and son-in-law Dan Meister, who once learned the hard way not to lend Hank books with “salty language” in them. Hank was well-loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed.
