Henry "Cook" Liedel

Henry J. “Cook” Liedel, age 86 of Dundee, formerly of Maybee, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Born April 2, 1935 in Monroe, Cook was son of Henry J. II and Dorothy (Smith) Liedel. A 1953 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School, he then continued his education at Wayne State University Department of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1957. Cook was the third generation of his family to own and operate the Liedel Funeral home in Maybee. Cook owned the funeral home from 1957 until his retirement in 2001, culminating in over 100 years of family operation. He received recognition for having served over 50 years in the funeral business. He married the love of his life, Darlene Cronenwett, on April 18, 1959 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maybee, officiated by Fr. Henness. Cook was a member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association, Knights of Columbus, Loyal Order of the Moose, the Eagles and Maybee Sportsman Club. Cook leaves to cherish his memory, Darlene, his wife of the past 62 years, a son John (Barbara) Liedel; a granddaughter Anne (Dave) Wech and a great grandson Michael Wech. Sadly he was preceded in death by his parents and a son Terry Liedel. Memorial contributions in honor of Cook may be made to St. Gabriel Catholic Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or Multiple Sclerosis Society.
