Helena Lona Berger went to be with our Lord on February 19, 2017. Helena was born on December 21, 1927 to Edward Mahany and Mary Anna (nee: Bruck) Mahany at the family's Exeter Township, Michigan Farmhouse. Helena had one dear brother, John Mahany, who passed away shortly before her birth. She was raised on her parents' farm as an only child. Their house was built by her father and grandfather, who came from a family of Irish immigrants. Her mother came from a family of German immigrants in nearby village of Maybee. They were faithful members of St. Patrick Church in the village of Carleton. Advanced by two grades, Helena attended McGowan Schoolhouse in Exeter Township for grade school and graduated from Carleton High School at the age of 16. She then moved to Allen Park and was a faithful member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Allen Park, where she married her husband, Richard Berger, who preceded her in death in November, 2015. Upon her glorious arrival in Heaven, Helena joined by Richard and her two oldest loving sons, Wayne Berger and Brian Berger. She leaves behind three additional loving children; Gail Berger, Karen Johnson, and Gary Berger (Dawn), and dearest granddaughter, Katelyn Reed (Christopher). Dear sister-in-law of the late Owen Berger (Patty), William Berger (Joan), the late Thomas Berger (the late Susan). Helena is also survived by three of her four goddaughters, many special nieces, nephews, and cousins, wonderful caregivers, and dear friends. Helena loved her family beyond measure, she always found the best in everyone and everything, and she lived up to this Golden Rule without fail: "Do onto others as you would have them do to you" -Luke 6:31 Helena held finance positions at Security Bank, Goodyear Tire, and La-Z-Boy. In addition to spending time with her family, she loved The Food Channel, recipes, cooking, and trying new and different foods and restaurants. She was a wizard at Scrabble and crossword puzzles, loved to sew, and created wedding cakes while in her 20s and 30s. Donations may be made to St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church.
