Helen Loonis

Born in Ecorse, Helen was the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Pieczyk) Babik. She married Elmer Loonis on September 26, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois. Sadly he preceded her in death July 27, 1987. A dedicated homemaker, Helen also had worked as a Nurse's Aide at the IHM Motherhouse for 27 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Frenchtown Senior Citizens and at one time the Belgian-American Club. Her hobbies included traveling and she was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, but most of all she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen is survived by children: Richard Loonis of Monroe, Linda (Russell) Calkins of Monroe and Judy (Dennis) Watkins of Monroe; as well as five grandchildren: Jared Watkins, Richard (Susan) Calkins, Cheryl (Drew) Famulak, Stefanie (Don) Wolfe, Tim Calkins and four great grandchildren: Ryan Calkins, Erich Calkins, Ian Famulak and Emma Famulak. In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Babik and a sister Bernice Duleba.
