Helen “Kelly” S. Kay was born on February 7, 1931 in Kalamazoo, MI to her parents Earl and Louella McDonald. She passed away on January 2, 2025 in Brownstown, MI.

Helen was the beloved wife of the late Arthur R. Kay and sister of Patrick and Robert McDonald. She was the loving mother of 5 children, as well as a grandmother and great-grandmother to many.

Helen had resided in Gibraltar, MI for over 60 years. Helen and Art were proudly involved in the city’s community of Veterans and various committees including nature preservation and historical and Native American sacred locations.

She loved Lake Erie, boating with Art and kids including being members of the Swan Boat Club in Newport Mi, being outdoors, animals, spending time with family, friends and music. During her working years in the 70’s and 80’s, she was a singer and songwriter for the American Federation of Musicians, working around the Detroit Area. She was especially involved with our Veterans and the Native American communities who accepted her as an honorary member around Mid-west for performing and writing her music honoring and highlighting their culture.
