On Sunday, January 31st, 2021, Hector Pejuan, devoted husband and father of 3, was unexpectedly taken by COVID at the age of 87. Hector was born on August 17, 1933 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras to Carmen Pejuan & Luiz Paz. While growing up in Honduras he began training as a tailor's apprentice. In 1951, at the age of 16, he emigrated to the United States. He landed in Detroit and went to live with his uncle, Alberto Pejuan. During that time, he finished his high school education and learned to speak English at the same time. He became a millwright and dedicated 43 years working at Kasle Steel in Dearborn. In 1955 he was drafted into the army giving him an opportunity to serve his new country. During his service, he was stationed in Korea. Upon his honorable discharge, he had attained the rank of private first class and had been awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He married the love of his life, Allene Craft, on August 1, 1959. They raised their 3 children, Sonia, Steven and Lisa, in Allen Park. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 45 years until its closure in 2013. Retirement afforded him the time to focus on some of his favorite hobbies; gardening and bowling. Every spring his backyard emerged as a stunning combination of verdant oasis and vegetable garden. His green thumb also went to work at the homes of his family where he was always tending, pruning and transplanting. Hector was an avid bowler and participated in multiple local bowling leagues. Most central to his identity was his role as a loving husband, father and Popi. Whether he was acting as a handyman, gardener or mechanic, he could always be counted on to be there for his family. Hector was preceded in death by his mother, Carmen. He is survived by his wife Allene; children Sonia (Allen) Nesbitt, Steven Pejuan, Lisa Pejuan (Mark Booth); grandchildren, Michele (Nicholas) Weil, Dr. Alyssa Nesbitt (Kyle Gagnon), Zachary Nesbitt (Autumn Hetzer), Hannah Booth & Andrew Booth; siblings Irma Pejuan, Alfonzo Pejuan, Danelia (Leonel) Espinoza, Gerardo Espinoza, Dilcia (Mario) Garay, David (Lisette) Cerrato, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions in honor of Hector may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Due to ongoing concerns related to COVID and in accordance with Hector’s final wishes to avoid the spread of this terrible disease, a private service will be held; Rev. Joel Walther officiating. Family & friends are encouraged to send/share tributes or stories with the family or by using the Martenson tribute wall.
