Hattie S McAllister

July 30, 1938 - November 29, 2023

Hattie Sophie McAllister, née Hodnicki, passed away on November 29, 2023, at the age of 85. She was the beloved wife of the late Dale McAllister, adored mother of David (Renee) McAllister and Jill McAllister Hartley, cherished grandmother of Jane and Kellen Hartley, and dear sister of Stella (the late William) Walker and Walter (Lynn) Hodnicki. Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Sophie Hodnicki, brother Joseph (Rose Marie) Hodnicki and sister Marion (Richard) Malinowski.

Hattie grew up in Wyandotte, Michigan, surrounded by a large extended family. She loved taking the bus to downtown Detroit, joined by her sisters and friends, to go shopping or to watch her beloved Detroit Tigers play at Tiger Stadium – a favorite pastime all her life. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, she began her career in administrative work at Wyandotte Chemicals. She left with the birth of her first child and only resumed her career when both of her children were in college and a former colleague asked for Hattie’s help at her new employer, Flat Rock Metal. Hattie went on to work at Flat Rock Metal for over 15 years and formed many lifelong friendships.

Hattie was happiest on roadtrips. She especially enjoyed traveling to California and North Carolina to spend time with her children and grandchildren, Maine to visit her husband's extended family and friends, and exploring New England and the coastline of her beloved home state of Michigan. In keeping with her love of baseball, along with being a faithful Detroit Lions fan, she traveled to 8 different major league ballparks and stadiums in the last few years alone.

Hattie was a loving sister and friend, but her most favorite role was that of mom and later grandma to her granddaughters, who were the greatest pride and joy of her life.

Hattie will be remembered by all for her kindness and generosity. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family, whom she loved completely and perfectly.

A Grosse Ile resident of almost 60 years, Hattie will be interred at St. Anne Chapel of Sacred Heart Church Cemetery on East River Road.
