Harold Bradley Cavins “H” age 76 passed away February 22, 2025 after a 5 year battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends.
Born on April 10th 1948 in Newport, MI to Dorsey and Verna (Carmack) Cavins. Harold attended Jefferson School graduating in 1966. On February 8th 1969, he married Kathleen Baron, married 56 years. Father to Shannon, Jennifer, Melissa, Joseph and a bonus son Kendel Miles. Grandfather (Pipi) to Caitlin and Riley Mitchell, Trenten Menego, Benjamin Monday, McKayla (Kyle) Van Stone, Jorden and Hanna Mowrer, and Christopher Cavins. Great-Grandfather (Pipi) to Damian Willingham II and Kaci Van Stone. Also Survived by sisters Bulah Hughes, Wanda Winger and many nieces and nephews. Sadly, in addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his daughter Shannon Tymczak, brothers, Ula, Eunie, Bill, Tommy and Kenny, his sisters Nancy, Glenda and Margaret.
Harold was honorably discharged from the Army in 1969, Retired from Chrysler Trenton Engine in 2004. He was a member of the Newport Firemen’s Association. Harold started the Firemen’s softball tournaments in the early 90’s, running nearly 30 years. Harold enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, softball, darts, bowling, crossword puzzles, spending time at his 2nd home in Lakes of the North and always playing Keno numbers everyday around 4pm, as well as watching his favorite television shows Gunsmoke and The Three Stooges.
In Harold’s spare time he enjoyed long walks on the beach, reading a good novel. (As Harold would say “Tricked ya”)
Family and friends may visit Friday, February 28th from 2:00pm – 8:00pm at the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes- Ford Chapel; 23620 N. Huron River Dr. Rockwood, MI 48173.
Harold will lie in state on March 1st at 10:00am at St. Charles Catholic Church with Mass at 11:00am by Father Henry Rebello Concelebrated with Father Jack Fabian C.C.L, and assisted by Deacon Mike Hammond. Burial to follow at St. Charles Cemetery with military honors by the VFW Post 1138, Monroe. Luncheon to follow at Swan Boat Club 6332 Brancheau St. Newport, MI 49166.
