Gregory Richard Smoots

Click on the tribute wall above to view Gregory's video tribute and service video. Gregory Richard Smoots passed away peacefully at his home on May 1st, 2020. Greg was born in Detroit, MI on August 16th, 1950 to parents Robert M. Smoots and Shirley (Brilinski) Smoots. Greg was a graduate of Riverview Community High School, class of 1968. Greg joined the Navy reserves on February 4, 1970 until he was honorably discharged on April 26, 1971. He took great pride in his time with the military. Greg then worked at DTE Energy, giving 39 years of his service before retiring in 2007. Greg is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Shirley Smoots. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Ola Smoots, brother Robert (Martha) Smoots, sister Jacqueline (James) Burris, daughters Elizabeth (Robert) Lafayette, Sarah (Joseph) Blankinship and his grandchildren: Nick, Haley, Jacob, Ryan, Matthew, Bryce, and Leah. Greg enjoyed spending time with his family, which included playing card games and making bets on his favorite sports teams. His sense of humor kept us all laughing. Greg also had a great love of animals, and would have gladly taken in any animal in need if possible. His kind heart will not be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Association.
