Greg "Woody" Woodington, 57 year old Detroit native, has passed due to complications arising from heart disease. Greg was the proud, loving father of David Gregory, James Albert, and Jonathan Daniel, and the former spouse and lifelong friend of Karen Lynne. His love for his family, while not always seen or shown, was always present and never questioned. Greg's love for his siblings was second only to that for his children. The youngest boy in a large family, he is survived by brother Larry and his wife Pat, brother Bill and his wife Nancy, and sister Toni and her husband Steve. Greg's many beloved nieces and nephews, who are too numerous to list, were a particular source of pride and joy to him and were unquestionably cherished throughout their lives. Despite his many claims to the contrary that were intended mostly for comedic effect, Greg took a great deal of personal pride in having served as a Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy for over three decades after having previously served in the United States Army. The camaraderie he felt with the brotherhood of law enforcement was a defining characteristic of his personality that his former coworkers will remember long in his absence. In his leisure time, Greg enjoyed following Detroit professional and University of Michigan collegiate sports, golfing, watching classic film and television, displaying a razor-sharp intelligence while watching game shows with family and friends that belied his station in life, and watching "the D.N.R." on local television. It is his family's most ardent wish that Greg will finally find peace as he joins some of his favorite people in eternal rest, including sister Geri, brother John, mother Rose, and niece Angel. Greg himself is in turn joined by his beloved dog, Jameson. Woody's sense of humor, loyalty, and generosity will be forever remembered and carried on in those that knew and loved him, both well and in passing. Donations in his memory may be made to the donor's charity of choice; however, his particular fondness for animals and children is worth noting. "Here's to us and those like us; damn few left."
