Grace Anson

Grace Baker Anson, age 79 of Monroe, Michigan passed away peacefully, Monday, February 28, 2022, at Fountain View of Monroe nursing facility. Grace was born on August 18, 1942, in Royal Oak, Michigan to Llyod and Mary Anson. She was a 1961 graduate of Airport Community Schools in Carleton, Michigan. Following high school, she was actively involved in the planning of several class reunions that she dearly loved to attend. Grace was a hard worker all her life starting with working on her parent’s farm while growing up, followed by being employed with Oakwood Hospital (Beaumont Dearborn), K-mart, Joe Smith Greenhouse in Carleton, Michigan and finally retiring from Meijer of Monroe. On July 28, 1973, she married Jeff Foland and from that union they had one son Keith Foland whom she leaves behind to cherish her memory. They remained married until divorcing late in life. Following her retirement Grace took pride in being the family’s historian by keeping journals of life on the family farm while growing up. She also enjoyed meeting once a month with fellow Meijer of Monroe retirees, using her green thumb that she was known for to tend to her flowers that she dearly loved and helping organize and prepare community meals at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Flat Rock, Michigan for several years. Grace is survived by her son Keith Foland, her sisters Irene Steinman and Julie (Lee) Hertzsch and several nieces and nephews in addition to several lifelong friends. A celebration of Grace’s life will be under the direction of Allore Chapel at 203 E Elm Street Monroe, Mi 48162. Friends and family may call on Sunday, March 6, 2022, from 1pm to 8pm. The funeral will be Monday, March 7, 2022, at the Allore Chapel at 10am with internment at Roselawn Cemetery located in LaSalle, Mi. Services will be officiated by Rev. Eun Sik (Cloud) Poy of the Carleton United Methodist Church in which Grace had been a member of. The family would like to thank the women of the Carleton United Methodist Church for the beautiful lap quilt that was given to Grace to comfort her. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Friends of Companion Animals at 2532 N. Dixie Hwy Monroe, MI 48162 in honor of Grace Anson. Her furry friends always held a special spot in her heart until the end.
