What man is this to be laid to rest on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at St Mary? Friends may gather from 10am until a Funeral Mass at 11am. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. He is “Gerry” born to Andrew and Elizabeth Gallagher of Philadelphia, who attended Our Lady of Sorrows and St Thomas More parochial schools. One of five sons, Eugene (deceased), Andrew (deceased), Dennis (deceased) and Joseph. A gifted and talented man never easily persuaded or dissuaded pursued a 17-year career in the Navy during which he was a seaman, a medic, one who worked with lepers, x-ray technologist and function in Naval intelligence. At 33 he began his education at U of M, Dearborn campus. His student teaching was done at Allen Park Jr High where his met his future wife Joyce Gillis, by whom he is survived along with two Sons, and one deceased. Michael (deceased) Brian (Deborah), Kevin (Emily) and four grandchildren Kelly, Morgan, Dylan and Zachary. The family moved to California where Gerry worked at General Motors as an x-ray technologist. Then moving to Baltimore, Maryland, Gerry taught special education. In 1971 the family moved to Monroe Michigan. Gerry taught social science at the Hall of the Divine Child. Judge James J. Kelley persuaded Gerry to apply to the friend of the court where he finished his career as chief mediator. He also was chairperson of the C.Y.O. and a member of the board of education of Monroe public schools becoming its president. Gerry was widely respected for his work in the court system. After his retirement in 1993 to Florida he continued mediating for the county. In 2015 he returned to Monroe to live out his years. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: The Spirit of Giving St Mary, St John Food Closet and The Oaks of Righteousness.
