Gerald "Gerry" William Nash passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, October 16, 2016. Gerry was born in Monroe, MI on Aug. 30, 1940 to Gerald and Effie (Irwin) Nash. He graduated from Monroe High School (Class of '58) and earned an Associate's Degree from Monroe County Community College. He served in the Army, including a tour in Germany, the Army Reserve and the Army National Guard. He retired from the military in 1993 after 24 years of service. Gerry worked for 32 years as a manufacturers representative for Gates Rubber Company and also worked as a part-time employee for Allore Funeral home for 15 years. Gerry is survived by his wife Patricia (Payne) Nash, daughters Rene (James) Nash and Chandra (Greg) Nash, son Kevin (Sarah) Nash and four grandchildren; Nash and Ellis McNichol and Magdalene and Evelyn Nash. Gerry enjoyed boating, telling stories and laughing with family and friends, and especially loved watching his grandchildren play. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and an older brother. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Detroit Beach Boat Club, the American Legion, AMVETS, VFW, The Moose, the Eagles, and the Elks. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-9pm at The Allore Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 203 E. Elm Ave. The funeral service will be Thursday 11am at the funeral home followed by military honors from VFW Post 1138. Deacon Mike Stewart of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Detroit Beach Boat Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monroe County Humane Society Click on the multimedia tab to view Gerry's video tribute.
