Schmidt, George Henry, age 55, of Wyandotte passed away on November 30, 2015. Dear father of Nicholas George Schmidt. "As I sit here and think about you, I can't help but think that you are at peace. I may not have known the details, but I understood you more than you thought. I know what it's like to constantly feel like you are at war inside your own head. I know what it's like to constantly feel pain, even when that pain originated a long time ago. I know what's its like to constantly seek a way out, to constantly look for a sigh of relief, even if only for a brief moment. I understand these things because that same blood that used to reside in you, also resides in me. As I sit and prepare myself to finally say goodbye, I would like to believe that you are, in fact, at peace. You will no longer have to feel pain or prepare for war. You will no longer have to suffer pure exhaustion from the constant battles. Today, you can finally rest. As I prepare to head back home, I pick up my own shield and start to head back into the fight. I turn around one last time and suddenly hear you say the one thing that always kept me going "keep your head up." I love you dad. RIP."
