Garry 'Hawk' Bussell, age 76 of South Rockwood, passed away suddenly, in his home, October 29, 2021. Born June 28, 1945 in Monroe, Garry was the son of Sammie and Reva (Giles) Bussell. A 1963 graduate of Trenton High School, he married Debra Reeder on May 29, 1971. Garry worked for over 40 years for Chrysler, retiring in 2007. As an accomplished Martial Arts instructor with a Black Belt in Karate, Garry taught this discipline to many residents from the downriver and surrounding communities at the Rockwood Community Center. He also had the pleasure of teaching his three children, and then making trips to McDonalds after class. His hobbies included working on and racing his many GTOs, attending swap meets and flea markets, listening to “Oldies” music as well as the Detroit Tigers games on the radio. In addition, Garry played many seasons with the Chrysler softball league as an outfielder and that is where he was given the name 'Hawk', of which he was very proud. Garry had been a member of Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church. Garry is survived by his children: Autumn (Scott) Arnsby, Adam (Tina) Bussell and Summer (Ron) Pauwels; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren (with one more on the way); his siblings: Marvin (Cathy) Bussell, Glenn Bussell, Brenda (Dennis) Smith and Dennis Bussell; as well as his longtime companion Petricka “Pepper” Austin and their two cats Six and Sun. Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie and Reva Bussell; his nephew, Brian Bussell; and his niece, Karly Vass. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Ford Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes. The family will have a private memorial at a later date.
